Escondido Horse Camp, Los Padres Nat’l Forest, King City

Escondido features nine first-come, first-served units with vault toilets, trailhead parking, picnic tables, and fire rings. Bring your own water for stock and human use.
The campground is located in oak and grassland meadow at an elevation of 2,300 feet. The Arroyo Seco River is nearby. Escondido serves as a departure point for the Ventana Wilderness. Closed during winter months (November-May).
Escondido Campground is located near Fort Hunter Liggett among oak trees and grassland meadow. The Arroyo Seco River is nearby. The site features nine first-come, first-served units with vault toilets, trailhead parking, picnic tables, and fire rings. Bring your own water. Activities at the site include hiking, fishing, hunting (check with California Department of Fish and Game for hunting season in the area), and trailhead for Ventana Wilderness.
Note: This is a seasonal campground closed November through April. Limited firewood available; use only firewood that is "dead and down." During summer months temperatures may get above 100 degrees F.
Facilities: Tables, stoves and vault type toilets.
Location: 40 miles west of King City, Take Highway 101 to Jolon Road, turn onto Mission Road, to Del Venture Road. Travel 12 miles to the campground.
