Double Sheet Bend

A Sheet Bend is the preferred knot for joining two ropes together because  the Sheet Bend doesn’t slip under load yet comes apart easily even when wet. The Double  variation of the Sheet Bend adds an additional level of security.

STEPS TO TIE A DOUBLE SHEET BEND

Collect the two ropes you want to join

SHEET BEND  STEP 1

Form a bight with one rope

Pass the second rope through the eye of the bight

Pass the working end of the second rope around bight

Thread the working end of the second rope under itself

Wrap the working end around the bight a second time

Thread the working end under itself a second time

Safety:

Ropes and the knots associated with rope, can be dangerous. If improperly handled, or tied, ropes can kill and you could be the victim! Always use rope with care and  inspect and test any knots you tie. Respect ropes subject to a heavy load, especially your own climbing rope. The danger associated with ropes under load is often learned by painful experience.
