Faye Luther Trail System
Carson City District, Bureau of Land Management
The Faye-Luther Trail is an 8.9 mile network of linear and loop trails with a connection to the Jobs Peak Ranch Trailhead and currently provides the only public trail access from the Carson Valley into the Carson Range of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The trail system is a joint effort of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest-Carson Ranger District, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)-Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office, the American Land Conservancy, and the Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA).
The trail up Faye-Luther Canyon starts at the U.S. Forest Service trailhead on the west side of Nevada State Route 206 (Foothill Road) in Douglas County, Nevada, and proceeds west into Alpine County, California. The trail starts as a sandy path, but gets steep and rocky the farther uphill one goes.
The five-mile long Faye-Luther Trail provides majestic views of Job’s Peak to the northwest and the Pine Nut Mountains to the east of Carson Valley. The non-motorized trail is open for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking during the dry season
Trailhead/Parking Lot Restrictions: no overnight camping or campfires are allowed at the trailhead/parking facility. There is no potable water or trash service at the trailhead, and users are asked to please pack home any trash that they brought in with them.
These trails travel through both high desert and forested habitats. Some common vegetation includes Big Sagebrush, Rabbitbrush, Bitterbrush, Curlleaf Mountain-Mahogany, Jeffrey Pine, Singleleaf Pinyon and White Alder.
