Soldier Basin Trailhead
Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest
Not an
established campground but rather a trailhead where
dispersed camping is allowed. Soldier creek is one of the few places in
the Rubies with easy access into the mountains. You can ride to Soldier
basin, which contains 6-8 lakes, depending on your definition of a lake
versus a pond. Soldier, Robinson and Hidden lakes are the largest and
most frequently visited in the basin.
The trailhead has a vault toilet and stock water from the creek.
Directions: From Elko, Nevada Interstate 80 east
to exit 321(Halleck) onto route 229; Turn right.
After about 10 miles turn right at sign for "Lamiolle 20 Miles". Between
5 to 8 miles you will be turning left (Forest service sign Soldier
Canyon). Trail head is at the end of the road. About 8 miles.
