McCrystal Creek Campground
Valle Vidal Unit , Questa Ranger District, Carson National Forest
The Valle is located in NE New Mexico about 35
miles north of the town of Red River. The climb up the mountain is
gradual and relatively easy. However, it is a gravel road so be sure
that you have good tires and a rig that can handle pot holes.
The McCrystal Creek Campground, located adjacent to McCrystal Creek, has 6 of its 60 campsites reserved for equestrian usage.
Campground amenities include: vault toilets, stock water, picnic tables, and fire pits. Highlines, pickets and portable corrals are all allowed for stock containment here.
Riding here is suitable for all levels of riding. Open meadows (watch out for grazing cattle) and mountainous timbered areas are all easily accessible from camp.
McCrystal is a popular area so be prepared for considerable activity in the area from hikers, fishermen and Boy Scouts.
