Bristol Fields Horse Camp offers access to the Fires Creek Area in the Tusquitee Ranger District of the Nantahala National Forest.

Amenities include: Primitive camping with toilet facilities, potable water, tables, fire rings, and horse stalls.

Features: This large remote basin is outlined by a horseshoe shaped rim of densely forested mountains rising to over 5,000 feet. Fires Creek drains the basin and the 5,240 foot Tusquitee Bald crowns its rugged steep terrain. Most trails connect to the Rim Trail, which follows the ridgeline around the basin. Some Rim Trail sections are for hiking only.

Area Trails:

Rim Trail   13.7 miles - High elevation, remote, steep sections.

Huskins Branch  1.5 miles - Little Fires Creek   1.3 miles. - Old road; steamside; steep sections.

Rockhouse Creek  2.3 miles - Old road; steamside.

Phillips Ridge 4.4 miles - Far Bald Springs 1.9 miles - Streamside, ends at Tusquitee Bald.

Directions: From Murphy at the junction of 19/129/64 set your odometer and take road 64 east 8.5 miles and turn left at the corner of the combination gas station and country store (presently the country store is named Gasoline Alley.) This paved road is not marked at the intersection but will shortly become Fires Creek Road up ahead. After crossing the Hiwassee River at 9.5 miles this road will officially become Fires Creek Road, continue on to 12.4 miles and turn left at sign that reads Nantahala Forest/Fires Creek. At 14.2 miles the pavement will end, the picnic area and trailhead are just ahead. Here you’ll find a beautiful rushing creek with a paved handicap trail just over the footbridge to the right that follows the creek side for a short distance
