Harmon Den Horse Campground - Pisgah National Forest – Ashville, North Carolina
Harmon Den is located between the Cherokee National Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The best riding seasons at Harmon Den are from early spring to early summer, then again from early fall to early winter. Some of the trails are out in the open with no shade, so not a great ride during the blistering heat of summer. Most trails have creek crossings, so horse water is not too much of a problem.
Riders here have access to 15 or so miles of single track trails with another 8 to 10 miles of gated fire roads (closed to traffic).
Harmon Den Horse Campground has 10 sites with a community hand pump well centrally located for all sites. Facilities provided include horse stalls and mangers that accommodate a maximum of 4 horses and 8 people at each site with a picnic table, gravel tent pad, lantern post, fire ring and parking for a single vehicle with horse trailer. Additional vehicle parking is NOT available. Also located within the campground is a self service livestock manure station, a livestock community watering tank and a SST toilet.
Open Season: May 1st-October 31st Closest Towns: Hot Springs Water: Hand pump-Drinking Water Restroom: Vault
This is a primitive horse camp with vault toilets, no potable water, and no electricity. Horses are kept in pipe stalls at each site (4 stalls in a row, each stall about 8 feet long and 3 feet wide). Highlines are available in some sites.
This is a fee campground. The fee is $15.00 per site per night.
Reservations are required. There is day parking available nearby open at all times. Both have direct access to the trails.
