Horse Creek Horse Camp

Siuslaw National Forest

Florence, Oregon

Horse Creek Campground sits high above the Pacific Ocean in the old-growth forest of the Central Oregon Coast. The campground is open year round and is outfitted for horse enthusiasts from novice to expert to enjoy the over 17 miles of horse and hiking trails take you through huge spruce trees and giant ferns with beautiful ocean views and fields of flowers.

Setting:

The campground and Trailhead are in the Siuslaw National Forest near Sea Lion Caves, just north of Florence Oregon.

Facility:

11 developed campsites, each with a small coral.  Campsites range from full sun to full shade and each have a picnic table and fire ring. Campsites range from back in to pull through.  A couple of sites have 2 picnic tables to accommodate multiple camping units. A vault toilet is provided and cared for by the Forest Service. A vault toilet is in the campground.

Camping Tips:

Bring your own potable water.  A stream-fed stock tank is available on one of the trails.  Follow the ‘Horse Water’ signs.

Campfires are allowed in the fire pits.  Bring your own firewood and make sure it is dead out before leaving the site or retiring to your tent.

Please follow all LNT practices and pack out your garbage.   Burning garbage or leaving it in the campgrounds attracts critters that you or your horse may not like the next time you arrive (mice, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, bears).

Campground Features:

This campground has plenty of room for horse trailers to turn around.  There is no Host onsite.  There is no fee for camping at Horse Creek for 2011.  However, beginning in 2012, a fee of $10/night will be charged, or $6 for Day Use parking and extra vehicles.

Just south of Sea Lion Caves, on Hwy 101, is a tight turn to the west.  Forest Road 58 heads east right at that turn.  Turn onto 58 and go about 4 miles to Horse Creek Trailhead.  The campground is at the trailhead.
