An easy hiking
and horse back riding route
that takes you past views of Mount
Rainier, gorgeous valleys, and alpine
meadows. This route has a 15 miles round trip distance with
most of that being through the
Norse Peak Wilderness area. This route can
be completed in one day if you wish. For
hikers and horse campers alike Airplane
Meadow makes for a great overnight
trip.

Mile Points
From the parking area
head east to the PCT (#2000) and then turn
right, toward Arch Rock (Left takes you
north past Government Meadows).
3.66 miles - Arrive at
Louisiana Saddle and the intersection of Trail #945 after passing
through a thick forested hillside.
5 miles pass by Arch
Rock – A side trail will take you past the
site of the old Arch Rock cabin and up to
the top of Arch Rock for tremendous views.
Keep watching to the west after you pass
this point, marvelous views of Mount Rainier
will appear.
6.25 miles – Reach the
intersection with the Raven Roost Trail
(#951). Just to the south of the
intersection is a viewpoint overlooking the
Crescent Lakes Basin. Taking the Raven Roost
Trail will lead you along a ridge to the
north of the same basin.
6.85 miles – Reach a
signed intersection for a trail heading to
Airplane Meadow. Follow this trail into
Airplane Meadow. At the entrance to Airplane
Meadow you’ll see what remains of an old
airplane crash.
To Get Here:
From Greenwater, WA head south on Highway
410 to Forest Service road 7000. Follow FS
Road 7000 about 17 miles to the end. There
will be signs indicating a horse camp,
follow them.
