Airplane Meadow - Washington
An easy horse back riding route that takes you past views of Mount Rainier, gorgeous valleys, and alpine meadows. This route has a 16 mile round trip distance with most of that being through the Norse Peak Wilderness area. This route can be
easily completed as a day ride if you wish. For packing in
or camping with your horse, Airplane Meadow makes for a great overnight trip
destination.

- The Government Meadows trailhead parking area has a vault toilet and many parking / camping spots nearby.
- The Government Meadows trailhead parking area has no potable or stock water nearby: Bring your own.
- From the Government Meadows parking and camping area head east to the PCT (#2000) and then turn right, toward Arch Rock (Left takes you north past Government Meadows).
- 3.66 miles - Arrive at Louisiana Saddle and the intersection of Trail #945 after passing through a thick forested hillside.
- 5.0 miles pass by Arch Rock – A side trail will take you past the site of the old Arch Rock cabin and up to the top of Arch Rock for tremendous views. Keep watching to the west after you pass this point, marvelous views of Mount Rainier will appear.
- 6.25 miles – Reach the intersection with the Raven Roost
Trail (#951). Almost there!
- 6.85 miles – Reach a signed intersection for a trail heading to Airplane Meadow. Follow this trail into Airplane Meadow. At the entrance to Airplane Meadow you’ll see what remains of an old airplane crash.
- Land Manager = Mount Baker - Snoqualmie National Forest
- The national forest requires livestock use certified weed-seed-free feed.
- Northwest Forest Pass is required
This route begins at the Government Meadows horse camp area.
To get to the horse camp: Follow Highway 410 east of Enumclaw and about 2 miles past the town of Greenwater. Turn Left on Forest Road 70 and stay on it, for 17 miles, to the end. The first 10 miles or so of the road are paved.
