Snoqualmie Valley / Cascade Range

Located in North Bend, Washington, about 45 minutes drive from downtown Seattle, Mount Si is one of the most popular hikes in Washington and the most heavily used trail in the greater Seattle area. If you're looking for solitude don't bother. But if you don't mind sharing the trail with hundreds of your new best friends (and their children and dogs) you'll be treated to a great workout and views of the Snoqualmie valley and Puget Sound at the top.

Mount Si WA

Climbing  over 4,100 feet (1,270 meters) over 4 miles from the parking lot to the summit plateau with an elevation change of about 3700 feet.

Abby on Mount Si

Beginning at the Mount Si Natural Resources Conservation Area parking lot you'll climb through a mossy conifer forest to the remnants of a burned area dating to 1910 when Mount Si burned for weeks.

About 2 miles into your trek you'll come to "Snag Flat" a level area with benches and interpretive signs describing the history of the area, a great place for a quick stop before attacking the  steepest section of the hike as you near the summit and the haystack.

View from Mount Si

There are plenty of good rocky perches and benches below the Haystack where the views are incredible.

To climb the haystack requires moderate scrambling skills to reach the summit. The views at the top aren't that much more impressive so don't risk the fall if you're not positive about your abilities.
