How to Tie a Rope Halter

 

 

This tip comes from Gene, a long time Backcountry Horsemen of Washington member who has many miles and years under his saddle.

 

If you use a rope halter you can save yourself trouble and aggravation by tying the halter properly.

 

The best way to tie a rope halter:

• Pass end of the halter tie rope through the eye loop from behind
• Loop over top of right side of eye and wrap behind the eye
• Bring over top of left side of eye, then pass through between the doubled rope and loop eye

 

Tie the halter so that it looks like the picture below and you'll be set!

 

 

 

 

Below is an illustration of an incorrect halter knot. A halter tied in this manner will slip, jam, and be a pain in the you know what. If your knot looks like this, try again.
