Haney Meadows is the name of a gorgeous
meadow that lies just below the Ken Wilcox
horse camp within the Wenatchee National
Forest, about 34 miles north east of Cle
Elum and two and one half hours from
Seattle, Washington.
The horse camp itself is named after Ken
Wilcox, a preeminent Washington State
horseman and proponent of back country horse
use. The campground is designed for horse
users and has 19 campsites with fire pits,
vault toilets, picnic tables, central
meeting area, as well as horse friendly
amenities such as hitch rails and highline
posts.
There is no potable water available at this
campground. There is equine/ stock water
available in and near the campground.
NOTE: Do NOT ride or venture into
Haney Meadows itself. What appears to be a
tranquil meadow was once the seen of mining
operations that left sink holes as a legacy.
NOTE: This is a National Forest area
and all livestock users are required to use
certified weed free hay or processed feed
for livestock. Also be sure to have your
Northwest Forest Pass when you’re here.

In keeping with Ken’s role in the creation
of the horse camp, the local Wenatchee
chapter of Backcountry Horsemen of
Washington helps maintain the camp and
trails in this area. Help preserve access to
these trails by following all Leave No Trace
guidelines and protocols.
The trails here start at higher elevations
and stay high, with generally mild elevation
gains and losses as you traverse Tronsen
Ridge nestled between the wilder Cascade
Crest and the more open desert regions found
in eastern Washington.
Stands of fir and ponderosa pine conjure
feelings of mountain wilds while vast fields
of wildflowers add plenty of color of the
deep blue skies and dark green forests.
Occasional views of Mount Rainier are
available as well as myriad other peaks in
the eastern Cascades.

Expect to see wildlife in abundance at
through out the Tronsen Ridge / Haney
Meadow area. Elk are regulars in Haney
Meadow itself and are frequently seen on or
near the trails.
You can get to the Ken Wilcox Horse Camp at
Haney Meadow by taking highway 97 to Blewett
Pass then head south on Forest Service Road
9716 to Forest Service Road 9712. You’ll be
on Forest Service roads for about 10 miles
and it will take you approximately an hour
to cover this distance.

NOTE:
This is NOT an all inclusive list of Haney
Meadow trails. The trails listed and shown
are loop trails accessed from Haney Meadows.
