Middle Fork Teanaway River

Cle Elum, Washington

The Bruce Tropple / Indian Camp

Two campgrounds are located on the middle fork of the Teanaway River on Middle Fork Teanaway Road.  The Bruce Tropple campground is reserved for horsemen; Indian Camp, directly across the road, is open for all other users.

If you don’t mind the multitude of old logging trails, or the occasional motorcyclist or mountain biker this area will certainly impress you with its incredible scenery. Gently rolling hills, meadow valleys, and stunning views of the Mount Stuart Range abound.

This is semi arid country with lots of open wide space to ride in addition to several great day rides from camp.

Teanaway Butte (8.75 miles R/T) – From the Bruce Tropple horse camp go west on the road and then head uphill at the first  trail entrance. Head to the top! .95 miles after you leave the horse camp you’ll intersect with a logging log. Turn left and follow for 3.10 miles to the top of Teanaway Butte. Return the same way to this intersection. Continue along the logging road past the intersection for 1.6 miles to Middle Fork Teanaway Road and the horse camp.

Indian Cave  (13.2 miles R/T )- Head west on the main road from the camp area for 2.9 miles to a trail on the left. Take the trail and follow it for 1.1 miles through a clear cut area, down into a meadow , to a bridge. Cross the bridge , pass a cabin and continue on the logging road for  1.3 miles to a valley overlook. Stay on the road, passing through the valley bottom, for another 1.6 miles. Turn right, cross a small stream, and start uphill for .75 miles to the top of the rise. At the top of the hill head turn right and head down the gentle slope for .1 mile to Indian Cave. After enjoying the cave return to the main valley trail by the way you arrived. At the valley floor trail turn right and head east for nearly one half mile where you’ll cross a bridge. .25 miles past the bridge you’ll come upon the remains of an early cabin. Continue on the trail for another half mile past the cabin, cross the Teanaway, and come up to West Fork Teanaway road. Turn west (right) just prior to the road and follow the trail, paralleling the road, for .6 miles through an open meadow. Rejoin the road and follow it for .9 miles to a trail intersection. Turn left and follow the trail below and past Lunch Rock for .6 miles. At the intersection turn right and follow the path for .3 miles. Head west (left) and follow the trail for 1 mile to the main trail, head right and go 1.85 miles downhill and back to camp.

Lunch Rock (9 miles R/T) – Head west on the main road from the camp area for 1.8 miles to a trail intersection on the left. Go up the hill and through forest for .4 miles to an intersection. Take the left hand trail, after 1.35 miles you’ll come to a shallow lake. Take the trail to the left of the lake for 1.5 miles. At this point take the uphill path for .25 miles to lunch rock and tremendous views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Continue on the trail for 1.5 miles past Lunch Rock and you’ll be at the first intersection you came to. Turn left again and return to camp on the same route.

Aspen Grove (4.9 miles R/T) – Head west on the main road from the camp area for 1.5 miles. Turn right and proceed through a gorgeous  aspen meadow for .8 miles. You’ll run into the main road once you pass the aspens. Turn left on the main road, in 1.1 miles you’ll come upon the initial intersection to the meadow. Make another pass through the aspens  or return to camp via the same route you came.
