The popular Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest offers an outstanding horse camp and 55 miles of horse and mule friendly loop trails. Spring and fall are wonderful times to camp and explore the sandy trails that loop and wind through old growth pine forests.

What to Expect

  • Over 54 miles of equestrian trails
  • The Palmyra Horseriders camp offers 56 level camping sites and a large day use area.
  • Each camp site has a picnic table, fire ring and a 30-by-30-foot graveled area with picket posts
  • The camp area has a drinking water source, an open air picnic shelter, vault toilet, horse showers, and manure pits.
  • These are shared use trails and some are open to mountain bikers.
  • Reservations are recommended through Reserve America 888-947-2757

Rules and Regulations

  • Land Manager = Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
  • A state trail pass is required for all people age 16 or older when horseback riding on trails
  • Trails are traditionally open late April through mid November depending on trail conditions.
  • Current negative Coggins test is required to cross state lines.
