For my last ride of my trip, I thought I would try to ride the West and East Butte trails to the Teepee Trailhead; the opposite ride of my first outing. The West Butte trail is easy to see from the Godman parking area. It takes off across the hillside but quickly goes back into the trees. Right after entering the trees I came to a large branch across the trail with no easy way around. I was able to use my hand saw and cut off the protruding limbs so I could get over it. I hadn't gone much further when I came to two fallen trees leaning across the trail. There was no way under or around, and they were too large to tackle with my saw, so I admitted defeat. I headed back to camp and then took the Meadow Creek trail in the southwest direction. This is a lovely, relatively level trail and I rode it to where it connects to the Middle Point Ridge. This was supposed to be an easy day of riding so I turned around here, making for about 6 total miles. This is definitely a trail I'd like to explore further. For anyone thinking of riding from Godman, I highly recommend downloading a Forest Service map for the area. It will make locating the trails a lot easier.
