Bic Lighter Hacks for Camping

Bic Lighter Hacks for Camping

As much as I enjoy practicing other methods of fire making, A lighter always has a place in my kit. I don’t always use it, but it’s nice to have an instant flame when you need it.

Here’s a few tips and lighter hacks to make your lighter a bit better.

Go with a Bic – Cheap brands are more prone to failure. Spend the extra couple of cents. You’re worth it.

Get a Bright color – if you drop or misplace a dark color it’s easy to lose. Bright happy colors on the other hand are MUCH easier to find!

Remove child safety cap –  We are not children. And the Cap is hard to use with cold fingers or gloves.

Wrap it with Duct Tape – duct tape is always appropriate! It’s also an excellent source of Emergency tinder

I’ve also been known to wrap a rubber band around my lighters for an additional tinder source.

If you’re feeling crafty – A hang loop will help keep your lighter nearby.

More Thoughts on Butane Lighters

Butane lighter fluid doesn’t vaporize under freezing temp – you have to warm it up – so keep it in a pocket if it’s cold.
