Clinic Overview

Join us for four days of hands-on craftsmanship, horsemanship, and good company at Sisters Cow Camp during the Back Country Horsemen of Oregon Rendezvous.

This unique clinic blends morning cinch-making instruction with afternoon riding and learning opportunities, creating a relaxed, immersive environment. Mornings are spent at the loom building skills and confidence; afternoons are yours to ride, explore camp, and take advantage of the many additional clinics, demonstrations, and educational offerings happening throughout the Rendezvous.

This is not a rushed workshop—it’s a true retreat built around learning a traditional craft while fully participating in one of BCHO’s premier educational events.

Cinch Crafting Mornings

Each morning focuses on guided, hands-on cinch construction. You’ll be walked through the process step by step, from raw materials to finished cinch, with plenty of individual help along the way.

By the end of the clinic, you’ll have a safe, functional, custom cinch, along with the knowledge and confidence to build more on your own.

This introductory cinch-making clinic covers:

Cinch Materials – natural vs. synthetic options
Determining Cinch Size – how conformation affects width and length
Knots to Know – essential knots and their applications
Cordage Length – proper measuring and layout
Building the Cinch – step-by-step construction
Details & Design Work – adding personal touches
After-Build Care – cleaning, care, and longevity
Resources – where to source materials for future projects

The class focuses on straight-style cinches, which form the foundation for all other builds. The skills taught can be applied to straight cinches, breast collars, English girths, belts, hat bands, key chains, and more. Mastery of straight cinches is the gateway to more advanced builds such as roper-style cinches.

Participants take home everything needed to continue building cinches after the clinic:

5-piece cinch-making tool kit

Fees & Registration

Total class fee: $350
Deposit: $100 non-refundable seat reservation
Balance due: $250, collected at clinic check-in

If the clinic is canceled by the organizer, all deposits will be fully refunded.
Camping and meals are not included.

Seats are limited to ensure quality instruction.
