This former military base has found a new life as a state recreation area with excellent equine-friendly trails.

Relax after a ride at this new rustic equestrian campground positioned along the north and east perimeters of the large equestrian staging area/parking lot. Sites feature a fire ring, picnic table, gravel pad, and three to four picket poles surrounded by a sand footing for easy drainage and cleanup. Water is available at a hand pump. Portable corrals are allowed.

A covered pavilion with picnic tables and a charcoal grill is available in the campground.

There are roughly 21 miles of equestrian trails available for riding on the Fort Custer Equestrian Trail and Blue Trail.

All camp sites at the horse camp now have 30 amp electricity, with sites 5, 6, &7 also 50 amp.  Sites 4, 5, & 6 have two covered corrals per site; and all sites  have picket poles. Site 7 is a drive-through site.  Also, the pavilion now has electric outlets for get togethers & group events.  Trails are easy riding for a beginner, with a few hills and some small stream crossings.  There are 16 miles of “horse only” trails and 5 miles of multi-use trail.
